Professor Trent Munro
Professor Trent Munro has over 25 years’ research and product development experience spanning academia and industry. He is a Biotechnology and Biopharmaceutical professional with extensive knowledge in the clinical development of a wide array of biological and synthetic therapeutic modalities.
Trent is a Senior Group Leader at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN), The University of Queensland where he holds several leadership roles including as Director of the National Biologics Facility (NBF), Program Director of the CEPI funded Rapid Response Vaccine pipeline and Director of the ARC Centre for Biopharmaceutical Innovation (CBI). His research interests are focussed on improving speed for development, engineering and manufacturing of complex, biologically derived therapeutics.
Trent previously held a senior management position with Amgen Inc., based in Thousand Oaks, California, where he led a global team as Executive Director of Process Development. During this time, he played key roles in the translation of molecules from research, through clinical trials, regulatory approval and global licensure through development of manufacturing and attribute characterisation strategies. This included a diverse range of programs spanning novel biologics, small molecules, nucleic acid-based products and cell and gene therapies across multiple therapeutic areas.
Professor Munro has a PhD in Protein Biochemistry from UQ and completed postdoctoral studies in cell biology and developmental genetics at the Department of Cell Biology, Harvard Medical School and the Wellcome Trust and Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute, University of Cambridge.
